Abstract The top dollar-earning industries of the Philippines, garments and electronics, employ the lowest levels of technology. Many foreign firms do not allocate significant funding for research and development. The author makes observations about management style of transnational corporations; the management of technology transfer; and the impacts of transnational corporations on host governments, local communities, and local businesses. Recommendations are made for better participation of transnational corporations in regard to local and regional development.
