Abstract Accurate fire tests are necessary to evaluate potential fire hazards of materials and products. However, existing methods are only weakly supported by scientific principles. The author focuses on fire hazards associated with people and applies scientific methods to evaluate material properties. Flammability hazard classification is also discussed.
